Female hormonal balance is a fascinating topic…I’m currently learning about this in nutrition school. The book “Dr. Bob’s Drugless Guide to Balancing Female Hormones” is a great resource.

Wendy, you mentioned that you had low estrogen and that your estrogen to progesterone ratio showed estrogen dominance. What steps did you personally take to balance your hormones? I am in the same situation. I have the lifestyle aspects under control….low stress, clean eating, weight lifting and walking, etc. I would love to know what else to do. Thanks!

I think it’s really interesting when you start looking at hormonal imbalances and imbalances like copper toxicity, etc., and you look at the symptoms and what things to do to get balanced out and how many of those are addressed (in part) through various diets people rave about because they feel so much better and have energy now, etc. It seems to me so many people are missing the bigger picture because they are not realizing what the big picture is. I also wanted to point out that in the transcript, Dell Davies should actually be Adelle Davis.

I’m wanting to go off of the pill because it messes up my hormones and the functioning of my body, but I’m having a hard time finding good resources on natural family planning and how to get things re-balanced…as well as how to learn my body. I’ve been frusterated that there isn’t much good information for a young married woman who doesn’t want to take a pill to plan our family. Any suggestions?

This is a tough question. The best options are condoms, diaphragm or the rhythm method. All other methods use hormones just like the pill or a copper IUD causes copper toxicity.
